Do you feel like going along the splendid French Riviera aboard a Fiat 500? Let me involve you on a week-long road trip from Cannes to Menton with its palm trees and azure water.
In order to avoid the crowd of tourists I decided to plan this road trip in early October. I think October and April are the best time if you don’t want to spend more time in the car than outside!
Some cities in French Riviera in which I stopped:
Cannes is probably the most famous city of the French Riviera. This is the place where you hope to meet some stars! The hotels are beautiful, you can find many luxury shops and the Croisette lined with palm trees is beautiful. However, the Palais des Festivals is quite small and I didn’t have access during my visit. I advise you to take some time to walk in the neighbourhood of Suquet – the old town – which was very charming.
Here are my favourite lunch/dinner places in rue Hoche. This is La Casa Di Nonna: it serves fresh and delicious pasta but also a lot of other meals to die for! Also their prices are very reasonable and their meals are quality.
Nice is probably my favourite French Riviera town! I intend to dedicate a complete article about this city. It will enable me to talk more about the places to see, where to park but also where to eat. In short the most important things!
Antibes – Juan les Pins is an old fortified town located between Cannes and Nice. You can feel there the relaxed atmosphere of the Riviera. The small Provençal market which offers many local products, the small beaches, Port Vauban and its narrow streets… The place has everything to charm you.
Villefranche sur Mer the small fishing village. If you go there off-season I advise you to park in the moat of the citadel. Don’t forget to admire the Saint Pierre Chapel, the Saint Michel Church but also its small streets and to walk on the beach. And if you have time, why not planning a small boat trip?
The Gorges du Verdon and its Sainte Croix artificial lake. This was probably the most beautiful place of this road trip and yet the stop which wasn’t expected at all! Turquoise waters, cliffs, waterfalls, everything is like in a dream. Unfortunately October is not the right season to go there. The wind is high, autumn storms are sometimes coming and the rental of pedal boats is closed. This is probably a place that I will visit again during the good season!
Menton is my colourful favourite. This village perched in the colourful hills, not far away from Italy, reminded me of my city trip to the Cinque Terre (for which I still need to write an article). There’s nothing like strolling through the alleys which has the atmosphere of Italy, or strolling in its wonderful marina.
If you have time:
French Riviera is so beautiful and long that I could go back for one more week! It would permit me to visit other cities such as St Tropez, Cassis, St Raphael, Castellet, the island of Porquerolles and the Eze village.
If you have more time than me I would especially advise you the village of Eze which is very appreciated! I intended to visit it at first but I decided to visit less places rather than running from one to another to see more.
I also recommend you to visit the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild located in Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat. A place where you’ll feel like Cinderella! Notice to influencers and bloggers: plan THE pretty outfit for this magical place! (Practical information: the entrance fee is +/- 16 €).
So tell me, what’s the most beautiful European road trip? The one from Naples to Amalfi and the one in the Italian Dolomites are eyeing me up!
