I stayed in Aluna during my trip in Zanzibar. We have stayed in over 8 different hotels across the island. But Aluna Nungwi is without hesitation the one I preferred.  Marvelously well located, it’s the ideal hotel to relax and enjoy the most beautiful beaches of Zanzibar.

Location – Aluna Nungwi

Nungwi is a village located north of the island of Zanzibar. This village is widely known for its beaches, considered as the most beautiful on the island. You’ll only have a few minutes’ walk from Aluna Nungwi before arriving in front of the sea. Where you can enjoy miles of beautiful white sandy beaches and the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean.

The location is really ideal because Aluna is close to the village, restaurants, and the beach but nevertheless in a calm and peaceful environment.

Pool goals

Those who know me know that I like being close to the beach but that I prefer to spend my day by the pool. Aluna Nungwi has 2 swimming pools, they are both pleasant, tropical, in full sun, ideal for sunbathing, resting and enjoying Zanzibar as it should be.

Obviously I chose this hotel at the start of the trip in order to acclimatize and enjoy it. However, they offer a lot of activities to do from the hotel for those who don’t need rest!

What about the food?

Breakfast is presented in the form of a buffet (Kellogg’s, pastries, bread, homemade jams, seasonal fruit, fresh fruit juice, coffee, etc.). But you can also order eggs, pancakes, yoghurt bowl, local sweets and treats etc!

The hotel has a restaurant with a view of the swimming pool, very pleasant and cozy. But if you want to eat on your deckchair, it’s also possible. I tasted a lot of dishes and I really enjoyed everything, specifically the Calamari Tempura!

Rooms – Aluna Nungwi

They have six different room types to choose from, with different features and price categories. Standard pool view ; Comfort pool view ; Garden cottage ; Family garden room ; Comfort double room & Jacuzzi Suite pool view.

I’ll let you guess… We obviously stayed in the suite with the Jacuzzi. One of the most beautiful rooms I have had during my travels. A breathtaking view, a really practical bathroom, a bright and airy bedroom. Without forgetting the perfect terrace to relax, read a book, admire the view or enjoy the Jacuzzi with a good bottle of champagne for the most romantic!

What I really loved there!

This hotel is nice and family friendly. The managers are on site and remain available if necessary. (Besides, they are Belgian! Like me)

You really feel at home in this hotel which I consider more like a guest house because you’ll feel like part of the family.

In addition, they care about the environment.  Plastic is a real issue on Zanzibar… So they had their Aluna bottle made to raise awareness to this problem. You can buy one and refill water for free during your entire stay. It’s a great souvenir to remember your vacation in Zanzibar. Also it supports the weekly beach clean-ups they organize with their team.

The owners of this accommodation really have a positive, ecological and family perspective. So I’m completely in symbiosis with such a good mentality.

I had absolutely nothing negative to say about this accommodation. Everything was perfect, my only regret is not to have stayed there for longer.
